Dr. Robert M. Feldman is a distinguished professor at the Ruiz Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at the McGovern Medical School, part of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). With a career spanning over several decades, Dr. Feldman served as Chairman of the department from 2008 to 2018, playing a pivotal role in advancing both clinical practice and research within the field of ophthalmology.
Dr. Feldman earned his medical degree from the Chicago Medical School, followed by a residency at the University of California-San Diego. He further honed his expertise through a research fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia and a clinical fellowship in glaucoma at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. His contributions to the field have been recognized with numerous accolades, including the prestigious Senior Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Specializing in all aspects of adult and pediatric glaucoma, Dr. Feldman’s clinical and research interests encompass surgical techniques, pharmacological therapies, and innovative medical devices. He has played key roles in many multicenter clinical trials, serving as site principal investigator, study chair, and in other leadership capacities across projects funded by private entities, industry sponsors, and the NIH. A respected leader in his field, Dr. Feldman has served on the Board of Directors of the American Glaucoma Society, acted as a Councilor for the Glaucoma Research Foundation, and is an Editorial Board member for the Journal of Glaucoma. His prolific scholarly contributions include over 300 journal articles, abstracts, and book chapters, as well as more than 300 presentations delivered around the world. He is also the editor and contributor of the textbook Complications of Glaucoma Surgery, cementing his status as a leading authority in ophthalmology.
